I understand that he wants to proud of his language, Spanish, but I do not think he has to avoid English.
The people in Venezuela could learn and use both Spanish as the first language and English as the second one. Two is better than one! To proud of Spanish does not mean avoiding English.
English is getting to become the common language in the world. So if they want to live with other countries people(Economy, Trade, Politics…), they should not avoid English.
